Commercial software still has an important place. Specialized engineering, accounting, medical, or creative applications often justify every dollar they cost. But paying recurring fees for software simply because "that's what everyone uses" is no longer a sound business strategy.
Own the tools that make you productive. Rent only the capabilities you genuinely cannot replace.
Your computers are already yours. Make sure your software is too.
When deciding whether to buy software or build in-house, the choice comes down to operational compromises. Custom software makes sense when daily workarounds become more expensive than building exactly what your business needs.
